Raising the Standard of Pain Management at Renaissance Care
Renaissance Care is a Scottish care home group with 18 homes supporting around 750 residents. Following a successful pilot with the Scottish Care Inspectorate, Renaissance made the decision to implement PainChek® across all of its homes.
Since doing so, the group has seen a significant improvement in resident outcomes – from more empowered care staff and fewer instances of distress, to happier residents and greater engagement in daily activities.
Measurable Outcomes at Glencairn Care Home
At Glencairn Care Home in Edinburgh, Home Manager Jozi Stables shares how PainChek® has transformed the way her team supports residents, particularly those who cannot reliably self-report their pain.
She also highlights the benefit of involving residents who can self-report in communicating their own pain using PainChek’s Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) assessment.
“Since we started using PainChek®, we’ve seen a 100% reduction in severe pain levels with our residents, with the last 3 months being consistent with no pain or low pain. We’ve also seen a reduction in our stress and distress levels within our residents, which has in turn increased staff morale.
We are witnessing residents taking part in more activities. Staff have more time to spend with residents to do things to support their wellbeing, not just the clinical side of it. It enhances resident care, but also empowers your people to remain fully involved in their care.”
Watch Jozi share how PainChek is improving resident care.
Driving Quality Care Across the Group
Lauren Kenny, Clinical Quality Manager at Renaissance Care, has seen the benefits of PainChek® at scale. She speaks to how it’s driving best practice in pain management across the group and improving overall resident wellbeing.
“We have had some fantastic outcomes for our residents with the use of PainChek®. We have seen a number of residents’ medications being reviewed, reducing the amount of analgesia that they’re being prescribed. We are seeing residents participating in activities more. We're seeing residents mobilising better because we are effectively managing their pain, [and] less stress and distress reactions across the board, and thats improved our inspection results from the Scottish Care Inspectorate.”
